A good player consists of a variety of characteristics. I don't consider a "good player" to always be the person who wins, but the player who is learning more about strategy as they play. A player who is persistent in their efforts rather than giving up when the game might not go their way is also another critical characteristic.

A player will be successful in my classroom if they are persistent and don't quickly give up when they hit a wall. They will be successful if they are able to learn from their experience and reflect on things that may have went well or things that may need improvement. I realize that these are difficult skills, especially at the fifth grade level, but these are goals that I work on with my students all year long in any endeavor that they may encounter.
