SUBSTITUTE INSTRUCTIONS -- MR. JOYCE -- ROOM 101 -- MARCH 29, 2013
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: This is a "B" day, meaning my classes meet blocks 1,3,4,5,6 (chart on bulletin board behind the desk, with times of classes).
Passes are in the top right hand drawer of the desk. Rosters are in the blue and white book on the desk. Lunch is block 4, 1st lunch. The advisory meets from 7:40-7:47.
Blocks 1, 5,6 -- WORLD HISTORY --
Have students pick up a copy of the paperback Fire From Heaven (please be sure all are returned at the end of the class). Then distribute the handout "Fire from Heaven". Tell them they are to read only the pages on the study guide, answering the questions on the spaces provided. All study guides are to be dropped in the white basket on the table at the end of the class, finished or not.

Block 3 -- JUSTICE UNDER THE LAW --
The DVD "Jury Selection: Edmonson v. Leesville Concrete Company" is in the player. It is 23 minutes in length. Please have the students pick up their journals (in a box on the table next to the desk). Distribute the sheet that says "Justice: FRIDAY CLASS." Have the students watch the video (23 minutes) and then in their journals write an essay (on the handout). Whether finished or not, they are to leave the journal back in the box before leaving class.

Block 4 -- POLITICS AND THE LAW --
Replace in the player the DVD from the JUSTICE class with the DVD for the POLITICS CLASS (It is in the container for the EDMONSON DVD -- replace it with the EDMONDSON DVD. When the POLITICS DVD is finished, just leave it in the machine.)
Select the second topic on the DVD, dealing with Fred Korematsu and the Japanese Internment cases. It is 36 minutes long. Have students pick up their journals from the box on the table. Distribute the handout POL/LAW: FRIDAY CLASS and the handout EQUAL PROTECTION ACTIVITY. After they watch the DVD segment, they are write an essay addressing the two questions on the ACTIVITY handout. Please have them leave the journals (finished or not) in the box before leaving.
