Before you begin, you must get security certificates from Mr Bean or your building tech. To get your security certificates, email them the serial number of your computer. You must also have a computer that is running system 10.4 or 10.5

1) Download the Tunnelblick OpenVPN program from
http://code.google.com/p/tunnelblick/

2) Double-click to open the .dmg file and it will mount a "virtual disk" on your desktop. If necessary, double-click this to open it.

3) Drag the Tunnelblick application from the virtual disk to your Applications folder to copy it there. You may now trash the virtual disk and the .dmg file

4) Open HardDrive->Applications->Tunnelblick.app

5) The first time you start the program, you will get a dialogue box saying "OpenVPN-Error: ...". This is OK, it's just telling you your certificates are not installed yet. Just click Continue.

6) A window will open titled "openvpn.conf". Close it and any other windows.

7) Open HardDrive->Users->[the folder with house icon]->Library->openvpn

8) Delete the file "openvpn.conf" in this folder and any other old configuration files or certificates, and move your two certificates into this folder

9) Close all windows and restart your computer

10) In the top-right of your menubar you should now have the icon of a train tunnel. Click this and select "Details". Checkmark "Set Name Server" and click Connect.

11) When prompted for your passphrase, enter the serial number of your computer in all capitol letters. Check the box "Add Passphrase to Apple Keychain" and you will not have to do this step again when you connect. Click OK.

12) The train tunnel should flash, and after a moment, it should turn into a solid "light at the end of the tunnel". You are now connected through the firewall. If this does not happen after a few moments, or the train tunnel stops flashing, please forward the last few lines that appeared in "Details".

13) You should now be able to work from home just like you were at school.
