I agree that, as educators, our challenge is to respond to an increasingly broad spectrum of learner needs, backgrounds and learning skills. I do not believe that this game format provided the opportunity to change the pace, level, or kind of instruction needed to respond to an individual learners' needs.
This particular game did not provide choices that would enable a high end learner to explore the topic in greater depth. It was the same information, just played over again to increase speed, not obtain more information, It did not provide students, with basic or advanced resources, or the opportunity to match their particular skill level. All player were treated as equals. Content wasn't simplified to meet students needs, adjustments were not made.
Using the Migrating Bird format in the classroom would make it difficult to achieve learning objectives for all students.
My school year started out with children who are considered low end learners. I use modified programs, because my students are kindergartners and it is, primarily, a case of the have and have nots. My students have some skills and need to learn at a slower pace. Mixed in with my lower end learners are the, have some, or average learners. These students are capable of achieving the curriculum foundations objectives, but need adaptions. Adaptations include clues to help with remembering and also recall. So, creating a game that adjusts to all learners is the main objective.

I agree. It is so important with our spectrum of students that we provide opportunities where they can work at their level or have freedom of choice within the activity. I agree that this game did not really do that. Students would have to be extremely observant to achieve the content goals.
